Should I Prewire Antennas, Access Points and Data Points for a New Build?

When it comes to installing new Antennas, TVs, data points and internet solutions such as access points, pre-wiring is a wise option. This particularly applies to multi-storey homes, or houses with narrow wall cavities, as once built, these homes are notoriously difficult to wire.

Pre-wiring your home will not only give you more flexibility in choosing where you want to have devices such as your TV or access points installed, but will also likely be cheaper than retrofitting due to lower labour costs. Additionally, pre-wiring will ensure that all cabling can be concealed – as if installation is completed after the home is built and the wall cavity cannot be accessed, unsightly exposed cabling may need to be run down the walls of your new home. Not to mention, the cost of pre-wiring can be covered under your mortgage.

While many builders offer pre-wiring options, to avoid improper installation and incorrect wiring resulting in timely and costly consequences, we recommend that only a specialised aerial technician completes the wiring for your antenna, TV and/or inbuilt speaker system. Similarly, only specialised security technicians should complete pre-wiring for your new CCTV or alarm system. Due to lack of experience and training, builders are renowned for pre-wiring cameras to positions with poor visibility and obstructed views.

All pre-wiring done by Jim’s Antennas and Jim’s Security is covered under the Jim’s Work guarantee. Prior to installation, one of our local technicians will consult with you regarding the number of TV and data points, access points and/or security cameras required and their placement. They will then review your plans to advise the best location for cabling. After pre-wiring your new home, our technicians will return to finish the rest of the installation process (mounting and connecting your TV, cameras and additional devices).
