Problems Watching WIN Channels? WIN Network Technology Improvement

If you own a television that is over 10 years old, now is the time to consider purchasing a newer model. Many free to air channels on the WIN Network are transitioning to newer technology, with the aim to improve picture quality and provide more flexibility in how these free-to air channels are viewed in regional Australia.

The technology is being upgraded from MPEG2 delivered channels to MPEG4. Some channels that have already undergone the transition include:

  • Nine HD (CH80)
  • Nine Life (CH83)
  • TVSN (CH84)
  • GOLD (CH85)

Further channels expected to undergo the transition in the coming months include:

  • GEM (CH81) in May 2023  (*GEM to upgrade to HD in late July 2023)
  • GO! (CH82) In June 2023

Channel 8, which is broadcasting lower quality Nine SD (standard definition) will remain in the old format, Mpeg2, for the next couple of months, but will eventually also transition.

At Jim’s Antennas, we expect our other regional and metor networks to also transition more of their channels over to the MPEG4 format as new technologies improve and become cheaper to purchase.

An alternative route to purchasing a new television is to buy a Set Top box (STB) that will allow you to view these channels.
