MAKE SURE YOUR NEW TV HAS BEEN MOUNTED TO THE WALL CORRECTLY!

Christmas certainly came early this year for many online shoppers who took advantage of the incredible TV deals during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales. Were you one of them? Did you purchase for yourself or for a loved one? (what a gift!). If so, have you thought about mounting your TV to the wall? Not only will you gain more floor space (no need for bulky TV stands), your room will look more stylish & sleek (say goodbye to the messy cables) and it’s also a safer option for households with children and pets.

If you would like to have your TV mounted to the wall, we recommend that you have a professional do this for you, as it is harder than it looks. Wall Mounting a TV can go horribly wrong in inexperienced hands, resulting in damage to the new TV, walls, electrical cables and often people!

There are many factors that you need to consider:

  • Choosing the correct TV bracket
  • Ensuring the TV is attached securely to the wall
  • Cables and wiring are hidden correctly and safely
  • TV is mounted at the correct height for optimal viewing

Only recently, Luke from Jim’s Antennas Shepparton, installed a new digital antenna for a customer. After completing the install, he was testing the TV wall points to ensure they were working properly when he noticed a wall mounted TV that was crooked. When he pointed it out to the customer, they mentioned that they had tried to wall mount it themselves.

Luke removed the TV from the bracket and found that it had been mounted directly into the plaster with incorrect masonry plugs and screws. Not only was the bracket crooked, but as it was a swivel bracket and being mounted into plaster, the weight of the TV was pulling the bracket down which would most likely cause the TV and mount to fall off the wall causing damage.

It was easily rectified by removing the bracket from the wall and remounting it correctly in a stud and ensuring it was straight. Now the TV and mount won’t fall off the wall and cause unnecessary damage or harm.
