The Brief: Cameras Around the Whole Property

The customer wanted a system that covered the perimeter of the property, not just the front door. Many break-ins start at the side of a house or the back fence, well out of sight of the street, so covering every approach is one of the smartest things you can do.

The goal was simple: a feeling of safety and comfort, backed by technology that does more than just record what happens.

What We Installed

Steve installed a six-camera Dahua system, recording to a Dahua 8-channel NVR (network video recorder). The setup includes:

• Dahua 6MP TiOC cameras: sharp 6-megapixel footage with built-in active deterrence, so the camera can do more than watch.
• 180-degree cameras: wide-angle views that cover more ground with fewer blind spots, ideal for corners and open areas.
• Standard cameras: positioned to cover doors, side access and other key entry points.
• Dahua 8-channel NVR: records all six cameras and leaves room to add two more later if needs change.

The cameras are mounted up under the eaves of the brick home. This keeps them out of easy reach, gives a clear line of sight, and keeps the finish neat.

Tripwires, Notifications and an Inbuilt Alarm

This is where the system really earns its keep. A standard camera records an intruder. A smarter one tries to stop them before they get any further.

• Tripwire detection: a virtual line is set across an area, such as a side gate or fence line. If someone crosses it, the system knows.
• Instant notifications: when a tripwire is crossed, an alert goes straight to the homeowner’s phone, so they know about it as it happens.
• Inbuilt alarm and active deterrence: when extra protection is needed, the cameras can trigger their built-in flashing lights and siren, letting a would-be intruder know they’ve been seen.

Because tripwires focus on people crossing defined zones, they help cut down on the false alerts that come from passing traffic, swaying trees and wandering cats.
