POOR RECEPTION DUE TO STORM DAMAGED TV ANTENNA

It is all too often that we dismiss a poor television signal as a byproduct of bad weather. Something that can’t be helped or that is simply inevitable.

While storms are likely to interfere with viewing quality, experiencing pixelation on your TV during or after rainy weather may be a tell-tale sign that your antenna or booster is filling with water.

Most commonly this is due to coaxial cables carrying water if they have been damaged, are old or simply have not been weatherproofed properly. Unfortunately, if the coaxial cabling in your antenna system becomes water logged, in most cases the whole antenna system will need to be replaced.

This is because the water getting into coaxial cables causes changes in video quality, and also damages connectors such as antenna amplifiers and boosters by causing them to rust.

Rodney from Jim’s Antennas Wyong recently replaced an antenna system for a customer whose old system had been destroyed by a storm. Not only had his client’s antenna been knocked off alignment, but the wind was so strong the antenna’s elements had even been bent! And to top it off, heavy rain had caused damage to the system’s booster.

When completing this job, Rodney replaced his client’s antenna and made sure to leave a dipole immediately angled towards the ground to create a ‘drip loop’. Additionally, he weatherproofed exterior connections, such as the connecting point between the antenna and the booster, by using coaxial cable sealant tape.

If you think that the pixelation you’re experiencing might be due to more than a stormy night, get it checked by your local bloke from Jim’s Antennas. Give us a call on 131 546, or book a free onsite no obligation quote online.
