What is Freeview?

What is Freeview??

What is Freeview…….? I just don’t want my tennis, cricket or Married at First Sight show breaking up like a teenager’s face.

Give me a sec I’ll ask Gary Google, what is Freeview?

“Freeview is the brand name of the digital terrestrial television platform in Australia intended to bring all of free-to-air broadcasters onto a consistent marketing platform, to compete against subscription television, in particular Foxtel”. Wikipedia.

OMG it’s true! Wikipedia is out of date and unreliable if it believes Freeview is still worried about Foxtel. Netflix and Kayo have got the wood on Foxtel for sure, yeah. Nah. Alright I’ve got nothing to support this argument other than my current monthly commitment to these two subscription based on weekend binge watching pleasure providers.

Ok, so what is Freeview? Freeview is a UK platform for digital services which we have adopted in Australia. Basically we have five channels, ABC, SBS, 7, 9 & 10 and their subsidiaries with currently 57 channels (TV & Radio) that are broadcast free to the Australian public. Now this doesn’t mean it’s without political influence or interference, unless your name is Megan or Harry and you can opt out with the Queen’s permission. Nonetheless it is free. Although I can’t seem to catch a glimpse of the Australian Open on channel 7 as the cricket is always on. Kerry Packer would be rolling in his grave I imagine.

In any case, Freeview means free TV for Australians.

Freeview is broadcast in 2 frequencies depending on where you are in this great wide brown land; Ultra High Frequency or UHF and Very High Frequency or VHF.  Google have a great map with all the Digital TV Transmitters in Australia – so if you’re looking at going for a bit of a DIY to get your Freeview – we’d suggest this a great place to start to ensure your at least purchasing the correct antenna for the frequency your closest transmitter broadcasts in.

If you’re not really into DIY – why not let the experts in Freeview help you instead! Give us a call on 131 546 or book online 24/7
