RETROFIT INTERCOM SYSTEM FOR INNER MELBOURNE TEN-UNIT APARTMENT BLOCK

Over the years, more Australians than ever have taken up apartment living. The last Australian census (2016) shows that over the past 25 years, the number of occupied apartments in Australia has increased by 78%

While this is great news for developers and owners of older apartment blocks alike. Existing owners have been placed under increasing pressure to revamp their properties in a bid to keep up with the competitive market.

Home security is a key consideration when looking for a new place to call home and it is apartment building owners who are responsible for implementing measures to keep their tenants safe.

However, older buildings often don’t have the appropriate data network wiring to install modern IP-based intercom systems or CCTV cameras and the expense associated with re-wring a residence is a common barrier for many security system upgrades.

Fortunately, there are a number ways to get around this issue, and significantly reduce the cost of intercom or IP CCTV installation. These include:

  • connecting a 2-wire intercom system
  • upgrading analogue cameras to HDCVI
  • or, using an analogue to digital convertor

Troy from Jim’s Antennas Wollert recently retro-fitted an intercom system for a ten unit apartment block in Northcote. Troy was able to install the new system over existing cabling by installing an IP migration transmission system technology, whereby a convertor turns analogue data into a high-speed network connection. The upgraded alarm system will allow residents to monitor who is at the front gate and grant entry from anywhere, at any time, as through the IP network they are able to view this information on smart devices such as their phones, as well as through an in-home monitoring device.

If you’re thinking about updating your current system, here at Jim’s Antenna’s we’re always here to lend a hand. Don’t hesitate to give us call on 131 546, or book a free onsite no obligation quote online.
